Dr. Malcolm Whiteway - Biography
Dr. Yasuo Konishi
Dr. Yasuo Konishi is Senior Research Officer and Leader of the Chemical Biology Group in the Health Sector of the BRI. He has been with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) since 1989. He obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Tohoku University, Japan, in 1976, which was followed by postdoctoral training with Professor Harold A. Scheraga at Cornell University, U.S.A., during which he published several noteworthy papers on protein folding that promoted him to Research Associate in 1981. He then worked at Monsanto Co., St Louis, Mo. U.S.A., in 1984 as a research specialist and shifted his research to peptide chemistry. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry at McGill University and a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry. Dr. Konishi has more than 90 publications to his credit and has patented over 15 biomedically relevant compounds or assays. His general research interests include development of General Chemical Libraries for drug discovery/repositioning and development of drug candidates as well as development of analytical methods to characterize natural products and metabolites.
