Amine Kamen is Leader of the Animal Cell Technology Group at the National Research Council of Canada's Biotechnology Research Institute (NRC-BRI). He received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from École des Mines de Paris and a second Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal. Prior to joining the National Research Council of Canada's Biotechnology Research Institute in 1991, he was involved in teaching mass-transport phenomena and reactor design at various universities before shifting to the emerging area of animal cell and viral vector technology. His current research activities in the field of animal cell technology involve scale-up of production processes; rational media design based on metabolic flux analysis; feeding strategies to achieve high cell density and high yield productions of recombinant proteins and gene delivery vectors; and development of new process analytical technologies for manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals.
